Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Facts about SAF:

1. SAF is a next-generation aviation fuel made from 100% renewable waste and residue raw materials.
2. Over the lifecycle, SAF reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 80%* compared to fossil jet fuel.
3.  SAF can be used as a direct replacement (drop-in) for fossil jet fuel as it is chemically similar.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel In-Action

Diamond Key International Group successfully installed and commissioned an major oil terminal project in Singapore which comprised two main scopes:

  • 1 x Additional new metering line at a truck loading bay, and;
  • Refurbishment of a metering line at a Jetty skid Arm 5 for a new product known as Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
The following diagram shows the planned Bio-JET process from the oil major's terminal aptly named "Vanda" (an Orchid Plant) project.
The SAF synthesised component (AltAir Paramount) is received either via ISO Tanker at an existing Unloading Bay or via Marine Jetty and stored into the designated tank. It is then transferred to a blending tank along with Jet A1 (via existing tanks) and blended to become Sustainable Aviation Fuel (Bio-JET), i.e. Jet A1 with up to 50% SAF renewables.

The Terminal's Operational Architecture shows the new metering line at Bay A Arm 4 (SAF-JET A1) & Bay Jetty Skid Arm 5 (SAF/Bio-JET).

Other DKI Vanda Project integration scope included:
  •  Additional Bio Jet Operations SCADA graphics inclusive for the new Bay A Arm 4 (SAF-JETA1) & Bay Jetty Skid Arm 5 (SAF/Bio-JET) products
  • New pipeline MOVs for Tank 205 integrated via PLC & SCADA graphics updated.

The Key Customer Operational benefits were:

  • Oil major's Terminal now has a new renewable product SAF-JETA1 & SAF/Bio-Jet which facilitates the aviation industry migration towards renewable fuels.
  • The First loading arm in a Singapore Terminal capable of loading with SAF-JETA1 product.
Major step forward in the #aviation ecosystem to decarbonise the sector.

This project is an example of DKI working closely with our customers to rapidly reduce their carbon footprint reduction and meet decarbonisation targets.
